Students often ask us if we go out if it rains. Yes we go out rain or shine – but we don’t go out to soak ourselves! We have been doing this a long time and we are adept at knowing where the shelter is when we need it.
It is very rare for it to rain persistantly in London – usually it is short showers which we can deal with very well – this need not cause you any loss of time or tuition. Also we provide rain covers for thos those with DSLR’s who need them. Water and electronics do not mix and we know how to keep them apart !
If you have a DSLR, some top end cameras are sealed to be waterprooof but check your lenses are sealed too. We would regard ‘sealed’ as meaning showerproof rather than waterproof just to be safe. The main danger is pointing a zoom lens upward in the rain – the rain can get into the lens this way when you zoom out and back in.
Umbrellas in the Rain
We think the rain is a great opportunity to take interesting photos which you may not get normally (yes, even in london). The photo above would not have those reflextions usually. You get some great colours and designs in the umbrellas – and you get highlights (in puddle reflections) on an overcast day. So rain can be a very positive thing if you use it well.
