Dartmoor National Park - photography workshops on location

There is nowhere else in the UK like Dartmoor. The landscape is vast, wild and rugged. On offer is the essence of nature for photographers to capture. Visually vibrant and atmospheric at all times Darmoor offers the photographer dramatic landscape photography.

Dartmoor National Park is an area of outstanding beauty and is the largest and wildest area of open country in the south of England. It has wild open moorland, granite tors and wooded river valleys. Covering 370 sq miles, Dartmoor is designated a National Park because it is an area of outstanding natural beauty: Dartmoor is situated in the county of Devon in Southern England.

Dartmoor Photographic Tour Details

The itinerary may vary due to weather. For this reason we don't have set times for starting and finishing - we will let you know the evening before. Note that we can use different weather conditions to good effect. Our photographs were taken in September when the light is luminous and softly coloured.

You can expect to be out for around 8 hours per day in one or two sessions and to be pretty tired in the evening. Expect at least one very early morning photo shoot and a few late sunset shoots as well. We will stay in a comfortable hotel close to the Moors.

Dartmoor is known for its dramatic weather; fantastic sunsets, colourful dawns and evening mists are all part of its fascination. To complete its enchantment, sheep, cattle and semi-wild Dartmoor ponies graze the moorland. Go straight to Reservations

Dartmoor Tor View

We will travel to our start points by people-carrier and walk from there. We have scouted extensively so that the concentration is on stunning scenery with minimal walking but you will need to walk up tors (hills with rocky outcrops) to get the long wide Dartmoor views. Expect to walk a fair distance but it is not a forced march - it will be slow to take in scenery with stops for photo shoots and snacks. Clients will need to be reasonably fit but not excessively so !

We will have a town day to catch some local architecture - Dartmoor has many picturesque towns. Ancient towns like Tavistock, once a tin mining town and the quaint, charming villages of Ashburton and Widecombe are some of the smaller towns dotted within or around the boundaries of the National Park. We will have time to sample cream teas (scones with fresh Devon clotted cream and a pot of tea). Delicious!

Dartmoor Lake

There is Internet access from several places in main Dartmoor towns.

We will meet you around noon at Newton Abbot train station. We will travel from there to our hotel, which is close to the moors. All rooms have ensuite and breakfast is included in the price of the tour.

The Dartmoor Photography Holiday is suitable for those who want to learn more about landscape and architectural photography in a friendly environment in the safety of a small group. We will be able to review our work in the evening for those that require it and have digital cameras. We have a large laptop screen for tour members who would like feedback. We can burn your digital images onto DVD if required (small charge per DVD).

This tour is suitable for all levels of photographic experience.
