St. James's Park is beautiful in the clear April sunshine. Daffodils are in abundance, golden, swaying gently in the breeze. This is the month to take a stroll in the park and enjoy the Spring sunshine.

St. James's is the oldest of the London Royal Parks and is surrounded by 3 palaces. The most ancient is Westminster, now known as the Houses of Parliament, St. James's Palace and the most well known, Buckingham Palace.
Outside Buckingham Palace is the Queen Victoria memorial. This represents the days of the British Empire. The memorial includes not only the white marble statue of Victoria and the glittering figures of Victory, Courage and Constancy. |
|
There are also the grand ornamental gates given by the Dominions. These are the Australia Gate, Africa Gate and Canada Gate.
St. James's Park is a perfect place to relax, catch your breath and eat. If you are on a budget there are a couple of good refreshment points, which sell tea, coffee, soft drinks and freshly made sandwiches. Prices are reasonable too.
|
If you prefer to sit down and have a meal there is an Inn, where you can order upmarket snacks and main courses. You may prefer a packed lunch and where else to sit? On a stripped canvas deck chair! These are for hire and a young gent will come around to collect the fee. |
|
The Park is beautifully landscaped with a lake running through its centre. There is a wild fowl sanctuary, with ducks, geese, pelicans and black swans. The pelicans are fed every day at 3.00pm. |
The bridge over the lake gives a good view of Buckingham Palace. This is spectacular at night when the Palace is floodlit.
