This year Autumn has been very mild with beautiful soft autumnal light filling Trafalgar Square. It’s a great day for our London Photo Tour and we make the most of the light. Our small group heads off around the Square after being given expert advice and tips on how to get the best from the lighting conditions on the day.
First stop are the mermaids which sit in the fountains. They are part of the charm of the Square and when the wind blows they become iridescent. This makes them a great subject to photograph. Light allows the colouration of the sculpture to become rich and saturated. The trees behind the merman show a gentle yellow colouring of Fall. We like the contrasts here; turquoise contrasted against soft oranges and yellows. The group learns about dynamic angles and composition. We all get a great shot!
Our small group leaves the Square with Fine Art Photographer, Lou Smith to capture a few urban shots. This is a perfect location for capturing the perfect mix of London – old and new. With expert advice from Lou the group explores their camera handling to ensure their settings are perfect for the next series of shots. Lou teaches the group about framing to ensure that only what is needed in the frame is captured.
