A Cautionary Tale About Getting Ready For Your Photography Course

Trying a new perspective with a new camera

Our most recent Creative Seeing Workshop was brilliant. The course attendees had a great time and worked really hard during the class. One of the attendees had completed Street Photography with us was returning for a second course. He lives outside of London and was spending the weekend with friends and decided to book a course too. We love it when clients return to work with us again. In fact the majority of our clients complete 3-4 photography courses with us!

On Friday we received an urgent text “Bit of a nightmare on my end. We’re in the car currently, on our way to London, and I’ve realised I’ve left my camera at home. Incredibly frustrating!”  Lucky for our course attendee we have a spare camera which we happily lent out for the duration of the workshop.  From time to time these things happen and if you let us know in advance that you have left your camera we can do something about it.  We have had three students who have booked a course and forgotten their cameras.  It seems unbelievable but it does happen occasionally.  Two of the students let us know and we provided a DSLR.  One course attendee only realised on the way to the workshop.  She had packed all her lenses but no camera.  Her bag felt heavy so she thought she had her camera, but on arriving at the course she discovered it was not in her kit bag.

When we confirm your booking we send you a check list of what you should get ready prior to your photography course.  Read it all thoroughly to avoid being in the same predicament as the course attendees above.

Advice on Getting Ready for a Photography Course
  • Read our confirmation email thoroughly and keep it handy should you need to refer to it again
  • Enter our phone number into your mobile so you can contact us readily on the day of the workshop
  • Make a note of the meeting place so that you know where the group will be
  • Charge your battery fully the evening before the workshop
  • Charge your spare battery too – don’t forget about this even if you have not used it
  • Check you have a clear memory card or a large card to handle the extra photos you will take during a course
  • Pack your camera with memory card and battery fitted
  • Sort out the lenses you want to use and pack them into your camera bag
  • If you wear glasses don’t forget them either!
  • Dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day

That’s it – you are ready!
