Royal Greenwich covered in London Fog

Our Royal Greenwich Photography Tour went out during the recent fog which covered London. Lou was leading the photo tour and was not concerned that she would be photographing in foggy conditions.  Lou’s advice on photographing in foggy/misty conditions is;

“Atmospheric conditions such as fog give rise to amazing photographic opportunities. It stretches a photographer’s knowledge base and learning is enhanced.”Lou Smith Fine Art Photographer

When Lou met Jim her first question to him was about he felt about photographing in the fog.  Jim is a photographer who loves challenges replied, “Let’s do it!”

Greenwich was unusually quiet as the mist kept people away. This enabled Lou and Jim to have Greenwich to themselves for the first couple of hours. The lack of activity in the small town added to the atmospheric nature of the scene.

Jim uses his telephoto lens to capture atmospheric river shots.

Greenwich Pier is a great location for capturing atmospheric river shots.  The other side of the river was just visible and created a sense of mystery and isolation.  Seagulls flocked to the pier and anything that they could find on the river.  Jim’s telephoto lens came in handy as he picked out several subjects to frame in the atmospheric conditions in Greenwich.  In the photo above you can see how Jim is concentrating on his photography.  Taking his time to compose and frame his shots.  The location lent itself to concentrated activity.  So few people were using the Thames Path.  Idyllic!

As the fog lifted, Greenwich became bathed in Autumn light. We could see the colours of Autumn

Around mid-day the fog lifted and slowly moved away leaving lingering misty conditions.  Cloud thinned and the sun broke through warming the land.  Royal Greenwich was bathed in Autumn light.  We could see and experience the colours of Autumn.  Greenwich was rich in yellows, oranges, reds and greens.  Trees still have many leaves bursting with Autumn colours.  We have had a great photography tour.  Jim has had an all-round learning experience as he photographed foggy and then bright conditions.  A great learning experience!
