Wex London Lens Show

The show was held near Tower Bridge cum Bermondsey way, at a close-to-derelict building in Jenner Street. Because of the state of the building we would not recommend for people with special access needs – getting in would be impossible and there were plenty of uneven floor to take you by surprise.

There was representation by major camera players like Nikon, Canon and Panasonic with some special discounts available like £150 off the Nikon D750.

It was nice to see Lee filters there since they always seemed to be a year behind on orders when we were looking at filters a few years ago.  What was nice was that all the demonstrators were friendly and you could even get to try out lenses on your own camera to look at the quality of pictures at home later if you wished.

It was set up so that the various stalls just demonstrated and you then bought through Wex on the ground floor – this wasn’t obvious at first and some explanations of how it all worked would have helped and probably led to more business.

We especially were drawn  to the the Macro room where the use of an ipad hardware and software addon by Manfrotto was demonstrated impeccably.  There was also a video section with amazing gymbal contraptions to keep your camera steady while you walk, or to see the images your drone is taking.

The Wex staff in light blue t-shirts were very helpful and friendly.  As usual security was bit of a nose-rub, allocating visitor tags when you went in then insisting you took it off even if you stepped outside to check your camera settings then giving you a tag again when you came back.  This would inflate visitor numbers nicely.

All in all a worthwhile visit – some bargains to be had with the chance to try out stuff you might only dream of or want to get a feel of before you buy.

There were various events fully booked like a Street Workshop – we were annoyed to see some of our original text lifted and used to advertise it, and  the workshop given by a portrait photographer – perhaps Wex could use a local (to London) company like LondonPhotoTours and Workshops next time – we have our own original text ready.
